ㅤpersonalityㅤㅤThrough the ages she's worn many faces, the one she most prefers is that of the soft-spoken teacher. Hades has always been a quiet, assertive creature, even when she was a mortal. Never the type to raise her voice, she prefers to patiently wait for her moment; sometimes it seems as if she's moving in slow motion, but her gaze betrays the sharp intellect honed over millennia. She's honest to what some would call a fault, and Hades will never hold back when asked for advice or an opinion - but if asked about her history, one will find she's a rather private creature. Little is known about her personally, even to her long-term student Siaren - there are so many masks one can hardly be sure which is Hades' real face.

ㅤshe remembers it like it was yesterday...ㅤㅤBy the time the Fifth Astral Era rolled around, Hades had already lived through the rise and fall of several empires — namely the Allagan, and was privy to all the strength and knowledge that came with the time. She had always been interested in magicks, even back then, which led her to certain doors... and to certain people.
Her teachings on the art of thaumaturgy were pivotal for some casters of the Era, which helped her form long-standing bonds, many of which she still thinks of today. This in turn led to her early placement as a founder of the city-state of Mhach, but did little to quell her thirst for knowledge and bright, forward-thinking minds.
The Fifth Era was host to Hades' incessant meddling. Travelling the many nations across the star, sitting in on classes and seminars, collborating with great minds — it was truly the time she felt most alive.
Unfortunately, though the early days were free enough, Hades' loyalty lay with the Mhachi; her position of High Voidmage meant more than any of the relationships she'd forged with other scholars. Her own desires combined in a deadly way with a subtle ask by an old, ominous friend, and led Hades to play spy within the walls of Amdapor. She extracted their wartime secrets from a powerful White Mage to send back to Mhach, purposely escalating the war to a cataclysmic peak.
While she survived, each nation perished in turn, and she thinks of the early halcyon days quite fondly.Other survivors do not.

ㅤan establishment older than eorzea itself.ㅤㅤWhen Hades — simply Antoniya, then — headed a coven of 'witches' during the Third Umbral Era, they needed a place to study away from the prying eyes of the Church. Together they'd enchanted a long-abandoned stone ruin to make it unfindable, it's underground nature lending to it's secrecy and sturdiness. It was a safe haven in a time of deep unrest, and beloved by it's keepers. When the crusades ended and Antoniya moved on, the halls fell silent until they were needed again.During the Third Astral Era, Hades returned to the humble establishment, now rife with dust and ghosts, with the intent to store her scant collection within it's walls. As time went on, she continued improving it: a library, a rookery, comfortable lodging, translocation... It's features are possibly the only reason it survived the Umbral eras — hidden away far from the earth-shattering impact of falling Allag, out of reach of frost's damnable claws, and high above the rising waters.It's been a very long time since this place was a single room hewn from stone for lost and frightened magi or a closet for stolen technology. It's been all manner of things before what it is has become in the modern day: a home for priceless, fascinating, and cursed objects, and those strange folk who seek their secrets. The halls of The Black Emporium echo with whispers of the lost, the artefacts beg for a new home, and it's proprietor is always — even if she is not seen — watching those who cross it's threshold.

It's always called to her — she was born with soul sight, and with a backdoor to the Lifestream, little about death and what lay beyond is... well, beyond her.
